Welcome to the Jazz Piano Teacher's Association (JAPTA) website
JAPTA, founded in 2000, aims to bring together the UK's jazz educators, jazz pianists who teach, and piano teachers converting to jazz. It is primarily an association of professionals who wish to register their specialised teaching practice and who wish to be kept informed of any developments in jazz piano education.
The growing UK public interest in jazz piano, brought about largely through the new Associated Board Jazz Piano syllabus, offers an ideal opportunity for 'classical piano converts' to develop their interest in practical jazz education. JAPTA has circulated newsletters in the past, but continues to develop and reflect professional interest in this specialised field; it presently operates this website for use by the public in search of a local jazz piano teacher.
JAPTA has a register of UK jazz piano teachers. If you are a jazz piano teacher and you would like to submit your details to the register or if you are a jazz student looking for a jazz piano teacher in your area, please go to the Look for a teacher page where you can search by post code, London borough or County.
Registration with JAPTA will be free for the first year, after which there will be a nominal charge for continued inclusion in the register to cover the cost of keeping the register and the website up to date.
If you are a jazz musician, jazz education or a student that would like to register an interest in JAPTA you can do so via the Registration page and we will keep you in touch with developments.
For information generally about jazz education in the UK, visit Jazz Services UK www.jazzservices.org.uk .
The register is maintained by JAPTA Honorary Secretary Robert Webb MMus and Project Manager, Maggie Alexander.
